Rocky Ridge
Love awoke us by fire,
We who were icy with sleep.
And now,
Awakened,
I want you like
A flood swells the borders of the sea,
Starlight stretching outward toward infinity,
A cyclone tearing at the tender sky.
Love--
A soothsayer in our hearts, crying,
“Live, live!”
And now,
Alive,
I want you like
An addict dreams of his crystal fix,
A miser clamoring for more, more,
A mystic struck dumb by the moon.
Come here,
Come here,
Do not listen
To my ravings,
Come back--
For behind this dusty wisdom,
I want you--
Beneath these shadowy misgivings,
We walk down along Rocky Ridge,
We dash between Redwood trees,
Out to meet the giant joke
Of the Pacific.
